Landscapes

Landscape | Landscape Photography by Craig Fouché Photography

Landscape photography shows spaces within the world, sometimes vast and unending, but other times microscopic. Landscapes typically capture the presence of nature but can also focus on man-made features or disturbances of landscapes. When I am photographing a landscape, my mind set is different to that of the other genres I photograph. I love to be in awe of Nature’s biggest spectacles and other worldly phenomena like the Milky Way, experience extreme weather and remote places. Once in tune, I am able to capture images beyond what I even imagined.

Many landscape photographs show little or no human activity and are created in the pursuit of a pure, unsullied depiction of nature devoid of human influence, instead featuring subjects such as strongly defined landforms, weather, and ambient light. As with most forms of art, the definition of a landscape photograph is broad, and may include urban settings, industrial areas, and nature photography. It may sometimes be necessary to include the human element in a landscape image to depict the sheer size and proportion of the subject photographed, an example would be someone on a cliff edge overlooking the valley below.

Landscapes also include the following categories:

  • Aerial
  • Architecture
  • Astrophotography
  • Cityscapes
  • Industrial
  • Infrared
  • Seascapes

You will see that I have created pages specifically for these categories, and have kept Film, Monochrome and Travel Photography as a separate pages in the main menu, even although there may well be some amazing landscapes depicted there.
